A four-year wait for Godsmack fans ends with today's (August 5) release of "1000hp," the group's sixth studio album and follow-up to 2010's "Oracle." Despite a tenuous time during the interim when the group members pursued other projects, frontman Sully Erna tells us Godsmack fell back into gear quickly in the studio, and he says "1000hp" also benefits from using actual recording tape rather than just digital technology to record it: "I miss even recording onto tape, and I'm so glad we got real tape on this album...We really got to hear the tape, like, I was so psyched! I actually got to turn the f***in' wheel, and, oh, it was great! So if we have anything I'm proud of on the record it's certainly knowing we had real tape on there." Godsmack preceded the album with the title track, while Erna says the song "Something Different" is his favorite for the second single. The group also rolled out a five-episode online series about the making of the album. The city of Boston has proclaimed Wednesday (August 6) Godsmack Day, and the group will be signing copies of "1000hp" at Newberry Comics. Godsmack will be hitting the road to headline this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival tour, which kicks off August 15 in suburban Detroit, with Canadian dates to follow after the trek wraps.
