The Rob Zombie Hockey Film?
By: Gary Graff
10/2/2012

With his latest horror film, "Lords of Salem," in the can and awaiting a likely 2013 release, Rob Zombie is turning his cinematic attention in an UNlikely direction -- a sports documentary. Zombie's next project will be a movie about the Philadelphia Flyers' Broad Street Bullies teams of the early and mid 70s, which won Stanley Cup championships in 1974 and 1975.

A documentary about the team appeared on HBO in 2010, but Zombie wants to bring his own take to the big screen. He tells us that "I was a huge hockey fan at that time, and I remember all this, so that's why I love it. That's a time period I fondly remember. It works out perfect with me...I know that all the key players are on board and they're behind the project."

Zombie adds that preparing the film is entirely different from the scripted original stories he's done so far: "Since it's a true story, I'm in the early stages of acquiring all the information, the research. I'm trying to find as much information on everything as I can, trying to find interviews with the players, different things, going to, like, the NHL and Canadian hockey, Canadian TV and anywhere we can find footage. That's the stage it's in now, early research stage."

Though the fact-finding is ongoing, Zombie himself is taking a bit of a break for his Twins Of Evil Tour with Marilyn Manson, which plays in the U.S. until the end of October and continues with a 13-show run in the U.K. and Europe during November and December. Zombie has also recorded a new album that he expects to release in 2013 as well.
