There's more where Godsmack frontman Sully Erna's solo album, "Avalon," came from.
Erna has put together a limited edition box set that comes out December 19 will include the original 2010 album and "Avalon Live" on CD, as well as DVDs that include "Avalon Live," the documentaries "The Making of Avalon Live" and "the Journey to Avalon," and a set of bloopers and outtakes.
The package will also include a coffee table book, an updated edition of Erna's memoir "The Paths We Choose," a tour T-shirt, a hat, a necklace, a backstage pass, a guitar pick, a poster from his concert at Boston's Wilbur Theatre and handmade incense. The set is available at www.sullyernaavalon.com; it runs $199 for the first 1,000 orders, $299 thereafter.
Palladia, meanwhile, will air "Avalon Live" on Nov. 16, while a separate DVD and Blu-ray of the live set will be released December 18. Erna tells us that stepping outside of Godsmack to record the quieter and more ethereal "Avalon" was rewarding:
"It's a very natural thing for me. I've always kinda played music like this, and I just never had a chance to really get it out there because Godsmack too up so much of my time and really helped me establish my career, which I'm extremely grateful for.”
“But, y'know, people have always known me as just that, and that's not always how I've been...There's a lot of different musical backgrounds that I have that just allowed me to want to sit at a piano and write music on a piano or an acoustic guitar or play hand drums or just experiment as a musician. And this was a perfect opportunity, now that Godsmack has a stable career, for me to take some time off and just get a different kind of music out of me."
Erna is planning to record another solo album, while Godsmack is on a hiatus while the other members work on a new project with their band Another Animal.
