Billie Joe Armstrong gets to show off his musical prowess every time he hits the stage with Green Day, but it’s rare that fans get to catch a glimpse of his comedic talents.

In a deleted scene from Judd Apatow’s latest flick This is 40, the singer displays his ability to laugh at himself when he sits down for a meeting with Paul Rudd’s character, Pete, to discuss a new musical project.

Armstrong describes his latest venture to sound like a mix of Norwegian death metal meets Belle and Sebastian, and states that it makes you want to cry and simultaneously, burn down a church.

Other things that Armstrong has to say about the side-project is that he hopes it will be comparable to two different radio stations going off in white supremacist's car, it will have nothing to do with Green Day or his own name, and it will be impossible to play live, as well as too dangerous.

As Rudd begins rattling off reasons why the project will be unmarketable, Armstrong interrupts with the explanation that he’s been selling too many records, and he feels he needs to take a step back.

Armstrong, who has been in rehab for substance abuse since the fall, is reportedly doing well and recently thanked fans for their support via a message on Instagram.

Green Day announced their rescheduled tour dates on Monday (December 31^st), which they had initially postponed following Armstrong’s decision to seek treatment. The band is set to play concerts in both North America and Europe beginning in March and running through July.
