It’s well-known that Dave Grohl doesn’t do anything half-way; a standard that apparently also applies to premiering his documentary Sound City.
The film is set to make its debut at Sundance on January 18th, and Grohl recently announced that he will usher it in by bringing some of rock doc’s core musicians and special guests to perform a live concert on the evening of the premiere.
According to the official press release, the concert, which bills the artists as the “Sound City Players”, will take place at Park City Live; a venue in Park City, UT that holds special shows every year in conjunction with Sundance.
Park City Live CEO Kathryn Burns said of the event, “The film SOUND CITY showcases the most talented group of musicians in the world and we are thrilled they chose to celebrate the documentary at Park City Live. The evening will be spectacular and we look forward to seeing who will join Dave Grohl and the Sound City Players onstage.”
No official lineup has been announced, but some of the potential performers could include: John Fogerty, Neil Young, Mick Fleetwood, Rivers Cuomo, Tom Petty, Pat Smear, Lars Ulrich, Rick Springfield, Kevin Cronin, Taylor Hawkins, Trent Reznor and Corey Taylor. See the full list here.
Sound City marks Grohl’s directorial debut, and chronicles the Sound City Studios in California that recorded some of the greatest artists of all-time, as well as some of the most iconic albums in Rock and Roll history, using its infamous Neve 8028 recording console.
The film and its soundtrack, Sound City: Real to Reel, can both be pre-ordered on iTunes now; the movie will be available for download on February 1st.
