With a busy year already ahead of it, Metallica will be one of the top honorees at this year's Revolver Golden Gods Award Show, taking place May 2 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles.
The quartet will receive the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award and perform at the event, and drummer Lars Ulrich tells us that while Metallica still has plenty of ambitions for the future, it certainly enjoys being honored for its past:
"The thing that I continue to just be proud of is the fact of our longevity, for the fact (it's) 31 years later and were still around and people give a sh*t is a cool thing. If I could buy another 31 years or, if not that, another couple decades I think is the largest accomplishment of all of it. But there's always things that creep up. I don't know if there's a bucket list, but what else? I don't know what else is out there. Do you have any suggestions?"
Metallica launched its own label, Blackened Recordings, in 2012 with the release of its DVD "Quebec Magnetic." The group is working on a new solo album and will release a 3D film, "Through The Never," on August 9. The group's second Orion Music + More festival takes place June 8-9 in Detroit.
Metallica will join Rob Zombie (Golden God Award) and Tony Iommi (Riff Lord Award) in receiving special Golden Gods honors; a full list of the show's nominees can be found at www.goldengodsawards.com.
