Top Five Rockin' Love Songs
Zooby Qizilbash
2/11/2013

Call it a Hallmark Holiday. Call it a day for love birds. Call it whatever you want. When it comes to Valentine’s Day, love is felt by all. You either love the day or love to hate it.

With February 14th right around the corner, it’s safe to say a large group of us will start to reminisce. Think about that list of firsts; the first kiss, the first time that person held your hand, the first time your heart was broken. Or maybe you’re on the opposite end of things, where you think about the hearts you have broken and how love is for suckers.

One thing we can all agree is on is that there are some great love songs that have really rocked us over the years.

With that being said, here’s a list of our Top Five Rockin' Love Song:

1. Guns N' Roses "Sweet Child O' Mine"

"She's got a smile that it seems to me reminds me of childhood memories" opens this ballad that rocks as much as it tugs on your heart strings. Axl Rose's lyrics about ex-wife Erin Everly matched with Slash's now iconic guitar riff maker for one of the greatest Rock and Roll love songs ever.

2. Metallica "Nothing Else Matters"

For many diehard Metallica fans, the release of "Nothing Else Matters" was more heartbreaking than the song itself, as it marked a new, less-heavy era for the the metal group. Still, frontman James Hetfield's heart-felt lyrics about being away from his girlfriend while on the road resonated with drummer Lars Ulrich, who wanted the song put into consideration for their 1992 self-titled album after hearing it.

3. Foo Fighters  “Walking After You”

This song is soft in tone but strong in lyrical content.  Dave Grohl sings his way you’re your heart with a song full of truth: Sometimes two people can’t seem to let go of one another, but realize there's nothing left to do but to walk away.

4. The White Stripes  “Fell In Love With A Girl”

The Detroit rockers belt out a great rock song about love. It’s frantic. It’s chaotic. It’s brilliant is what it is! Sometimes you want someone who isn't the best for you and this song captures it all. The heart wants what it wants.

5. Pearl Jam  “Black”

Sometimes sad stories have a happy ending. Sometimes, the wound doesn’t heal and leaves a bad scar. This is the type of song that hurts and doesn’t give in to the pain. It sticks with it. Love hurts, and what better voice to sing about it than Eddie Vedder's?
