Wolfgang Van Halen Discusses Van Halen's Return to 70s Sound
By: Gary Graff
2/20/2013

Though David Lee Roth recently expressed disappointing over the slow progress towards Van Halen's next album, bassist Wolfgang Van Halen is singing a more optimistic tune.

The son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen and nephew of drummer Alex Van Halen tells us that he expects to see the group dip into more of the 70s demos that it used to make its last album, 2012's "A Different Kind of Truth:"

"I kinda wanted to put dad, Al and Dave into the mindspace of when they wrote, like, 'Running With the Devil' and 'Dance The Night Away' and stuff like that. I think we did a pretty good job...There's plenty of other ideas lying around, and some new stuff that we've been working on, too. You never know what will happen."

Currently Van Halen is slated to play the Stone Music Festival in Australia on April 20 and three shows in Japan during June.

Wolfgang, meanwhile, is doing double-duty, playing bass in Creed/Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti's solo band, which kicks off a U.S. tour on Thursday (February 21) in Pontiac, Mich.
