U2 frontman Bono announced this week that has recruited a top-notch list of rockers for his latest ONE Campaign, a new project called "agit8."
For the project, a number of great musicans have agreed to cover legendary songs, including Green Day, Kid Rock and Ed Sheeran. The guys will produce covers of classic songs, with Sheeran taking on Bob Dylan’s masterpiece “Masters of War.”
Several iconic musicians will also recreate their own political songs for the project, including Sting, who will perform the Police’s “Driven to Tears,” and Tom Morello. Speaking with Rolling Stone, Morello discussed his inspiration for joining the One Campaign.
“Bono called me on up and said that the One was doing a campaign in conjunction with the G8 aimed at eliminating extreme poverty in our lifetime,” he said in the interview. “The theme of the event is protest and progress and the idea that our efforts historically and currently are not in vain, extreme poverty has been halved over the course of the last 20 or so years and there's the good chance with continued pressure of the 99 percent that extreme poverty can be eliminated.”
Sean Lennon and the Beach Boys’ Al Jardine will also team up to remake “Give Peace a Chance,” originally sung by Lennon’s late father, Beatles icon John Lennon, for the charity project.
