Absence has apparently made Queens of the Stone Age's fans' hearts grow fonder.
"...Like Clockwork," the group's first new album in six years, debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of more than 84,000 copies.
t's the group's first No. 1 album ever and only its second Top 5 entry, something founder and frontman Josh Homme tells us makes him both happy and uneasy:
"Well, frankly, I'm a bit shocked, honestly. I mean, y'know, we have a long history of challenging our own fans to come on a non-repetitive journey with us, you know, and so I know sometimes that can be difficult, and it has varying results... Everyone seems to be receiving this record so well. I guess there's always a little part of me that's like, is that OK? You know, I'm trying to enjoy the moment, I guess...I try to live in the moment, but when the moment is 'congratulations,' I guess I want to, like, blush and turn away."
"...Like Clockwork" is the first album to feature the latest incarnation of QOTSA, which Homme put together after the release of "Era Vulgaris" in 2007.
The new album also features guest appearances by Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor, Elton John, QOTSA alumnus Nick Oliveri, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner and others. The group will be in Europe during June and July, then launches a North American tour on Aug. 2 at Lollapalooza in Chicago.
