With the talent to match, these five rockers have teased and styled their way onto our list of Rock and Roll's best hair. While there have definitely been more than a few musicians with memorable 'dos over the past few decades, we consider these guys among some of the best:
1. Jon Bon Jovi
When Bon Jovi broke through with 1987’s Slippery When Wet, the best-selling album of that year, a heartthrob was born. The son of a hairdresser, Jon Bon Jovi has frequently changed up his style, from his shaggy, tousled look during the ‘80s to his expertly-feathered locks of the ’90s. In recent years, the “It’s My Life” singer has mastered the natural wave, but it has always been clear that both his hair and his career have “Bounce.”
As the lead guitarist for Guns N’ Roses, keeping his signature long, black curls intact for all these years shows Slash’s dedication. Known for his riffs in songs such as “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” Slash’s talent made him a guitar icon. Even after his GNR days, Slash has maintained his image and his hair, perpetually hiding his eyes behind a pair of shades and skillfully balancing at top hat above his impressive ‘do.
3. Steven Tyler
Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has made a name for himself as one of the most captivating and charismatic performers over the past few decades. Rocking the same look since the beginning of his career, Tyler’s mane of hair has always been a part of his signature style. Aerosmith’s unique sound has earned them a number of chart-topping hits, including “Walk This Way” and “Sweet Emotion,” but between his mix of feathers, highlights and braids, Tyler’s hair is also clearly a hit in its own right!
4. Motley Crue
When it comes to bands with rockin’ hair, no group deserves a category all to themselves quite like Motley Crue. Best-known for songs like “Kick Start My Heart,” “Shout at the Devil” and “Girls, Girls, Girls,” drummer Tommy Lee, bassist Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars and the band’s sole blonde member, frontman Vince Neil, might not have the big hair of yesteryear, but they still know how to rock. Motley Crue may not always be concerned with winning awards, but they have definitely earned our vote for the rock group with the best hair.
5. Dee Snider
Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider has mostly kept his hair pulled back in recent years, but Dee will always be known for his unforgettable look, which consisted of curly, bleach-blonde locks, his crazy blue eye shadow and a number of wild outfits. The band broke onto the music scene in the early ‘70s by mixing the style of AC/DC and the dramatics of KISS. Though Twisted Sister called it quits years ago, one thing is certain: Dee brought the ‘hair metal’ genre to a whole new level, and he still rocks those long blonde locks today.
Honorable Mentions: Sebastian Bach, Metallica (pre-haircuts), Joe Perry, Dave Mustaine, KISS.
