Happy Birthday going out to Robert Plant, who turns 65 today!
The Led Zeppelin singer has had quite a busy year, touring with both his reformed version of the Band of Joy as well as with the Sensational Space Shifters and being awarded with Kennedy Center Honors with his former bandmates. Plant also recently joined the world of social media, launching an official Twitter page and Instagram account earlier this month to the delight of his diehard fans.
So, will we see Robert posting teasers about an upcoming Led Zeppelin reunion tour or sharing photos of Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones and himself in the studio?
The ‘Golden God’ has suggested such things over the last few months about the possibility, specifically during an interview with Australia’s Extra Minutes when he joked, “I’m not doing anything in 2014” in response to a question about a Zep reunion.
However, Plant’s joking seems to be just that, at least according to The Daily Star, who speculate that if the iconic singer was going to be persuaded to rejoin the band that brought him fame, it would’ve happened by now.
But that doesn’t mean that on this day, the day of Robert Plant’s birth, you can’t hear some more recent music from the band that brought us timeless classics such as “Stairway to Heaven,” “Rock and Roll,” “Whole Lotta Love,” “Black Dog” and “Kashmir.”
In the fall of 2012, the UK rockers released Celebration Day; a live CD/DVD that chronicles Led Zeppelin’s 2007 reunion at London’s O2 Arena during which they paid tribute to the late Ahmet Ertegun.
Plant also tends to play Zeppelin songs while on tour with his other respective projects, though the tunes tend to be stripped down, reworked, or both.
So, Led Zeppelin reunion or not, today we will celebrate one of the greatest frontmen in Rock and Roll history.
Happy Birthday, Robert Plant and keep on rockin’!
