Bon Jovi's drummer has been hospitalized for the second time in just a matter of weeks.
Tico Torres, 59, underwent emergency surgery earlier this month to have his appendix removed, causing Bon Jovi to cancel several of their South American tour dates.
Now, it’s been announced via the band’s official website that the drummer has once again been experiencing “severe pain in his abdomen,” and had to return to the hospital to undergo gall bladder surgery.
But frontman Jon Bon Jovi says that Torres’s health issues won’t keep him down for long.
“Tico Torres has been the heart and soul of our band since we started 30 years ago,” the singer writes on the band’s website. “He’s also one tough SOB and we look forward to him again pounding away brilliantly at the drums on remainder of this and future tours.”
Torres also posted his own message on BonJovi.com, thanking fans for their support and revealing that drummer Rich Scannella, also a New Jersey native, will fill in for him until further notice. Bon Jovi performed sans Torres at the Rock in Rio festival in Rio de Janeiro Brazil on Friday (September 20).
We wish Tico a speedy recovery following his latest surgery and look forward to seeing him in his rightful place behind the drum throne soon!
