Famous Left Handers Who Rock
Happy National Left-Handers Day! While lefties make up about 10% of the population, it seems like society has favored the right-from desks, to scissors, to guitars. Here’s a few southpaws who rock.
ROBERT PLANT (Led Zeppelin)
Left handed-ness has often been seen as a trait indicating creativity and musical abilities.
Rare is the left handed guitarist-even rarer is this man's talent. Hendrix used right-handed guitars, turned upside down and restrung for left-hand playing.
Iggy Pop was a real wild child. Maybe that's because left handed people were believed to be possessed by the devil and were evil, as the devil was a lefty himself.
TONY IOMMI (Black Sabbath)
In an industrial accident at the age of 17, Iommi lost the tips of the middle and ring finger of his right hand, which caused him to consider giving up the guitar entirely. He eventually returned, playing left-handed.
KURT COBAIN (Nirvana)
On his 14th birthday, Cobain's uncle offered him either a bike or a used guitar. He chose the guitar. Kurt was actually ambidextrous, writing with his right hand but playing with this left.
